Hypnotherapy & Hypnosis - Frequently Asked Questions

What associated hypnotherapy techniques do you use?

In addition to using hypnotherapy I use pro-active counselling, re-framing, cognitive behavioural and neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) techniques.

How safe is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is completely safe; it is natural and works with the way that the mind naturally operates. It is recognised by the National Health Service. More than just being safe, hypnosis is demonstrably effective at bringing about change, and has been shown to improve the function of the immune system and the digestive system and lead to more restful, recuperative sleep. According to the Health Education Authority:

'Research shows that there is more scientific evidence for hypnotherapy than any other complementary therapy.'

People usually experience hypnosis as very pleasant and relaxing.

How much control do I have?

I use of a permissive method of hypnosis. Clients can reject any suggestions if they wish.

Can I be hypnotized?

It is estimated that 85% of people of all age groups will readily respond to clinical hypnotherapy. It is often successful when other, more conventional methods of treatment have failed.

Why does hypnotherapy work?

Hypnotherapy is effective because it works in the way that the brain naturally works to make and break habits. In this state information can be transported from the conscious to the sub-conscious mind or vice versa. The British Medical Journal states:

'There is good evidence from randomised controlled trials that both hypnosis and relaxation techniques can reduce anxiety. They are also effective for panic disorders and insomnia. A systematic review has found that hypnosis enhances the effects of cognitive behavioural therapy for conditions such as phobia, obesity, and anxiety.'

What is your policy regarding confidentiality?

I am bound by the BSCH code of ethics regarding confidentiality.

What happens in a session?

Typical, the problem is discussed, then goals you are aiming to achieve and the course of action. Most commonly the hypnotherapy is at the end of the session.
